At Credit Karma the credit scores are out of 710 and they rate people on a scale of 1-5.
Your credit score and rating reflect your history of borrowing and the likelihood of you making repayments should you borrow again. If you have a high score, you are usually seen as a lower risk and, consequently, you have a greater chance of being approved for credit.
However, it’s important to remember that lenders don’t make their decision solely off your score. In fact, when they review an application they consider loads of different things. This means that a high score doesn’t automatically lead to credit approval in all cases and vice versa with a low score.
You can see all the financial and related information Credit Karma hold about you on your credit report. They have no access to other personal information such as criminal records, political persuasion etc.
The credit account information that is shown in your credit report is supplied to Credit Karma by lenders and they cannot change these details without the particular lender’s permission.
Lenders (who actually own the credit account information) update Credit Karma records every month and they will show this updated information on your report when they get it.
Some of your credit accounts might not appear on your credit report because the companies have not provided Credit Karma with information on those particular accounts.
Some companies may only provide details of accounts where the customer has fallen behind with payments. If you have paid these accounts on time, this may explain why Credit Karma don’t hold any information on them. Alternatively, the company in question may not send account information.
Lenders (who actually own the credit account information) update their records every month and Credit Karma will show this updated information on your report when they get it.
Settled and defaulted accounts are kept on their records for six years from the date of settlement or default. After this time they are automatically removed and won’t show on your credit report.
